After 30 years in the construction business, Gray Construction has grown, and along with countless projects and building for you on the seacoast, we have also learned to offer more services to you for you next construction project. One of the services that we have devoloped is a full service design department.
Our design staff has over 15 years of design experience to assist you in getting your next project, from the concept you have been dreaming of, to a full set of working drawings that are ready to build from. At Gray Construction, we use a proven 3-step design process that will help keep costs within budget and also give you exactly what you're looking for.
To understand a little bit more of how it works, we've separated the three steps. The first step is Schematic Design, followed by Design Development, and the final step in the 3-step process is Construction Documents. Feel free to read through these steps and if you have any questions, or would like to start the design process and make your dream home a reality, please call us at 1-603-964-9234, or fill out the form under Contact Us. We look forward to hearing from you!
Step 1: Schematic Design (one or two meetings)
In this step, we will meet to get a strong sense of your vision of the project, the scope of what you are looking for, and how you want the project to work for you. While we are on site, we will take a few preliminary measurements and some photos. With all the information we gather, we will head back to the drawing board and generate some quick studies and layouts of what the potential project could look like for the next time we meet. With the layouts and sketches in hand, we will have a strong base to work off of for the next step in the design process, DESIGN DEVELOPMENT. If you like what you see, we can move on to the next step, but if we missed the mark, we can stay with the schematic design and tweak the design until you are satisfied. The cool thing about this is, at this point, it is only paper and ink that we are working with, so a re-work on the design is not costly.
Step 2: Design Development (two or three meetings)
After we have the right concept locked in, we then move into the second phase of the design process known as design development. Here, we will start to move over to CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings and start to get tighter with our plans and layouts with real world dimensions to ensure that your vision will work in the real world when we break ground. In this step, we will start to talk about things like finishes (i.e. window types, flooring selections, door types, etc.). This is where you will really start to see your vision come to life. After we have figured out all the building blocks that will come together to make our project work and determine that the layout is just right, we will then move to the final step of our design process, CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.
Step 3: Construction Documents
In this phase, we take all of the information compiled in our previous meetings and we generate a full set of working drawings that can be submitted for permits and construction. Here is where we believe that we hold the competitive edge over other design and architectural firms. Our lead designer, Jake Sullivan, has been working in construction for over 20 years and has firsthand experience with all the facets of construction and carries this into all of our designs to make sure that we give you the highest quality product possible without high cost sometimes associated with the architecture firms.
